Protocol is a formal dinner and dancing event that Christ Academy hosts each spring for high school students. This event provides an opportunity for students to grow in their practice of exercising good manners, social grace and respect for others in a fun and festive setting.
In the weeks leading up to Protocol, students participate in focused sessions with hands-on instruction in areas such as formal table etiquette, graceful conversation skills and traditional dance. When the event evening arrives, students dress in formal attire for a sit-down dinner where they put their sparkling new conversation skills and table manners to use over a delicious meal. The evening culminates with a rousing and sometimes uproarious dance in traditional styles such as English and Scottish Country Dancing.
While practices like those we learn for Protocol may be unfamiliar in our culture at large, at Christ Academy we believe they have great value in contributing to the holistic formation of our students. Far from creating a rigid formalism, Protocol contributes to freedom and fluency in the art of living out Christian virtue in daily life. Through these rhythms, students are invited into a beautiful dance of mutual respect, honor, self-sacrifice and joy.
