Classical Christian education is a holistic approach to shaping the hearts and minds of young people that has deep roots in Western tradition and Christian practice. Classical education emphasizes independence of mind, clarity of writing, and winsomeness of speaking. The bedrock of a classical curriculum is the liberal arts, framed in the categories of the trivium—grammar, logic and rhetoric. Christian education identifies Jesus Christ as the center of human life and teaches students to see their whole existence in relation to Jesus. Bringing those ideas together, classical Christian education seeks to equip young people with a breadth of knowledge and a depth of wisdom, all framed within the context of Christ’s mission and preeminence, so that students can move into adulthood ready to live out their lives as an expression of God’s goodness, beauty and excellence.
Many of our students do not have a background in classical education before enrolling. We use academic testing and family interviews to assess a student’s learning level and ensure they are placed in the most fitting classes. Furthermore, students are supported with training and instruction in foundational skills and knowledge. Those students who enthusiastically desire to learn and grow and have supportive family settings to help them navigate this new experience are those who find the most success at Christ Academy.
As a private school, we enjoy the opportunity to hire teachers from diverse backgrounds with varied professional experiences and credentials. Our priority in hiring teachers is that they have a robust Christian witness which supports our school mission. After that, we seek candidates who have a passion for working with students, deep content knowledge, and who are skillful in instruction and assessment. We recognize that there are both licensed and non-licensed educators who fit that description; we employ both and appreciate the unique contributions of each group.
Latin study has many benefits! First, it improves vocabulary. About 80% of English vocabulary is borrowed, mainly from Latin. It aids the understanding of grammar, and enables students to write and read with greater ease and clarity. Second, Latin study includes learning about the history and culture of the Roman Empire which has had profound and continuing effects on Western Civilization. This cultural study cultivates an appreciation for Western heritage. Third, the exactness of the Latin syntax hones the mental faculties, cultivating careful analysis and attention. In addition, the study of Latin is the beginning of the study of the 5 Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian). And finally, as students continue their Latin studies, it will open doors to the enjoyment of some of the most influential literature in the world–in the original language.
While our dress code is neat and attractive and simplifies student attire, functioning to diminish socioeconomic cliques, we wear uniforms for a deeper purpose. Uniforms do not remove the individuality of the student, but instead represent the vocational calling of the student, aiming to bind and unite our students in a common vision in the pursuit of virtue.
With our compact and integrated curriculum, we can provide a robust education in a shorter time span than standard schools. This then allows students the freedom of an extra day away from school, connecting with family, pursuing enrichment activities, or investing in school projects (students will have assigned work to complete at home each Friday). A shorter school week also has an economic advantage for families.
Accreditation will take time. We do however provide transcripts which meet all the criteria for college entrance. We are currently working with Concordis Education Partners to meet all standards and best practices.
Yes, because we aim to provide education that shapes students according to their needs. In contrast, the standard model of grade division assigns students based on date of birth without accounting for variances in aptitude. We assess a student’s placement during the application process.
While God has not gifted each child identically, He values each child equally. We seek to imitate God’s regard for children, and we aspire to serve all children who desire the education that we offer. We recognize that, in some cases, a student may need academic and relational accommodations, and we provide those accommodations on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with expert recommendations.
Christ Academy serves students from K-12.
We do not offer school-based sports teams at this time, but interested students may be able to participate in the sports program of their local public school.
We recognize that our students and their families may hold a variety of Christian beliefs. As an institution, we align with historic Christianity as expressed broadly in the ancient creeds. We also affirm and teach the riches of Reformed Protestantism, including the authority and relevance of the Bible in all that it teaches. We are not affiliated with a particular church or denomination.
