MUSIC AND VISUAL ARTS

At Christ Academy, we believe that an education without beauty is incomplete. Our program gives students a broad exposure to visual art and music recognizing that beauty draws the heart toward God, who is the source of all beauty. Through these encounters students grow in skill, gratitude, and a deeper love for God and His world.

The primary art program introduces students to the foundations of visual art through creative, hands-on learning. Children explore key art elements such as line, shape, color, texture, and form while developing fine motor skills through drawing, painting, and building. Using a variety of materials and artist studies, students learn to observe, create, and express ideas with confidence while developing a love for the artistic process.

The secondary program takes a skills-based approach that focuses on representational drawing as foundational for artistic growth. Students develop technique through a structured progression that emphasizes observation, proportion, form, and light. Art history is woven throughout the curriculum, introducing master artists and exemplary works. Through careful practice, visual analysis, and reflection, students cultivate patience, attentiveness, and humility—virtues essential to both artistic growth and character formation. The program seeks not only to develop technical skill, but also to form students who can recognize, appreciate, and create art that reflects truth, goodness, and beauty.

The primary music program introduces young students to the joy of music through singing, movement, and rhythm activities. Children build foundational musical skills while developing attentive listening habits and a love for great music. Through playful exploration and guided experiences, students gain confidence, musical awareness, and an early appreciation for the beauty of music.

The secondary music program is designed to cultivate musical understanding and collaboration through choral ensemble. Students study basic music theory and vocal parts while engaging in music history, composer literacy, and guided music appreciation to help them develop a deeper understanding of the music they study and perform. Our goal is to cultivate a lasting appreciation for the beauty of great music, a love of participation in it, and the musical skills and experience needed to do both with confidence.
