House System

A house system is a long-standing tradition in classical education that divides students into smaller, cross-grade communities within a larger school body. Students are inaugurated into a house at their entrance into school and remain there until graduation.

At Christ Academy, the house system cultivates a vibrant, family-like community within the larger school, giving students a deeper sense of belonging and shared purpose. Throughout the year houses participate in friendly competitions, collaborative service projects, and community gatherings that build connection and school spirit. The House System fosters relationships across grade levels, encourages leadership roles and supports character-building activities.

As House Captains, select upper-class students are entrusted with leadership and peer mentorship, and guided by dedicated faculty who care for each house and its members. House names are drawn from prominent figures in church history who exemplified the characteristics of our mission: that students lead thoughtful, articulate, beautiful and virtuous lives for Jesus Christ. Whether students find themselves in Jerome, Chrysostom, Hildegard, or Thérèse – the house system promotes the formation of the whole person toward Christ-likeness.

Renowned as the “Golden-Mouthed” preacher, Saint John Chrysostom devoted his life to proclaiming the truth of the Gospel with clarity, courage, and grace. Through his preaching, writings, and enduring liturgy, he modeled how faithful words—shaped by Scripture and disciplined by virtue—can confront injustice and lead the Church toward wisdom and holiness.

Saint Hildegard of Bingen bore witness to the beauty of God through a life that united music, art, science, and prayer into a single offering of praise. As a composer, visionary, and careful observer of creation, she reminds students that beauty reveals truth and draws the human heart toward wonder, wisdom, and worship.

A tireless scholar and translator, Saint Jerome devoted his life to the careful study of Scripture, believing that knowing God’s Word rightly was essential to loving Him faithfully. Through his work on the Latin Vulgate, he modeled intellectual discipline, patience, and reverence—reminding students that thoughtful study is an act of devotion offered to God.

Known as the “Little Flower,” Saint Thérèse of Lisieux teaches that true virtue is formed through humility, temperance, and faithful obedience in the smallest moments of daily life. Her “little way” reminds us that holiness is not always found in grand achievements, but in quiet trust in God’s love, expressed through simple acts of self-denial and joy.
